Max Verstappen secured pole position for Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix and will be joined on the front row by Sergio Perez at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Verstappen was three-tenths faster than Perez after setting a 1:33.660, whilst Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed the top five.
In Q2, a crash for Carlos Sainz on the exit of the final corner resulted in a red flag, but he managed to continue and progressed to Q3.
The big shock in Q1 was Lewis Hamilton being eliminated after only going 18th quickest. Hamilton would have safely gone through had he not run extremely wide at Turn 14. Home hero Zhou Guanyu was also knocked out.
