Lance Stroll topped a Chinese Grand Prix practice session disrupted by a bizarre red flag for a grass fire on Formula 1's return.
The Aston Martin driver pumped in a late effort on the Soft tyres to vault up the order, having previously not run the tyre, with team-mate Fernando Alonso 19th in the times.
He beat Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen with Lewis Hamilton 18th, having not run the Soft tyres either on the Mercedes.
The session was briefly red-flagged for a grass fire at Turn 7 before marshals extinguished the flames and the session carried on.
