Zhou triggers Canadian FP1 red-flag in already delayed session

The Stake driver tagged a wall early in the session, already delayed by rain.

Zhou Guanyu has triggered the first red flag of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend in an already delayed Free Practice 1.

The opening 60 minutes of practice began on time at 13:30 local time, but the pit-lane exit was not opened as a heavy rain and hail storm in the hour before practice hit the Montreal track.

The on-track running was delayed by 22 minutes, with the pit-lane not opening until 38 minutes remained on the clock, with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton the first driver to venture out, on intermediates.

However, just 11 minutes into the started session, Zhou aquaplaned through Turn 5, and clipped the right-rear wheel against the barrier, breaking the suspension and grinding to a halt.

A brief four-minute red-flag followed with Valtteri Bottas fastest in the sister Stake, with Hamilton and Max Verstappen the other two drivers to have set a lap-time before the red-flag.
