The Alfa Romeo felt a late surge for points could have been a better option for the team.

Zhou Guanyu believed Alfa Romeo could have been in the points in the Singapore Grand Prix, after failing to make a one-stop strategy work.

The team elected to pit him after two laps on the Soft tyre at the start and run the Hard until the end, but a Safety Car midway through enabled those on the Medium to pit and emerge ahead.

It left Zhou, who was recently confirmed as staying on with the team for 2024, outside of the points, as he went onto finish 12th, behind Alexander Albon.

"We decide to box on lap two to try to go to the end with the Hard, waiting for Safety Car, and it almost worked," he explained to media, including RacingNews365.

"The first Safety Car was perfect for the guys starting on the Medium unfortunately, so they all had a nice window and I was at the back of the field again.

"Then we had we had a decent pace the whole way, I felt like points was difficult because we had two Red Bull's behind."

Zhou: We could have been P10 with Alex's mistake

Zhou believes the incident between Albon and Sergio Perez presented an opportunity for the team to pit and attempt a late surge into the points.

"We committed to another stop, but I think if we stopped maybe with Alex's [Albon] mistake, we could have had P10," he explained.

"But nevertheless, I'm happy with the progress. We changed the engine to sacrifice [this race] for the next few races."
