Yuki Tsunoda has highlighted he can be more “aggressive” with the Red Bull car after being fitted with the updated floor at Spa-Francorchamps.
Tsunoda has been running an older spec car compared to team-mate Max Verstappen in recent rounds following his high-speed shunt at Imola earlier this year.
However, the arrival of the latest version of the floor offered Tsunoda a boost for the Belgian Grand Prix as he qualified in seventh place.
It marked his best qualifying result since joining the Red Bull team earlier this season.
When asked by RacingNews365 what he is getting from the new floor compared to the old one, Tsunoda explained: “A bit more grip, literally.
“It’s already on paper how much difference we’ve had since I don’t know how many races.
“Considering always the difference I’ve had in terms of delta lap time between Max and myself wasn't that huge. I knew in myself and my engineering group, we are in the right direction for myself to improve in the way we want.
“I’m happy that I improved it, it’s just generally more grip. The previous one was just more sensitive than anything.
“Once you slide, it just never recovered. This one, you can be more aggressive with it.”
Tsunoda's car is still not completely the same spec as Verstappen's, but the Japanese driver would not reveal which components are different.
“The team did a good job to bring me the upgrades just before qualifying,” he outlined.
“That was big enough to be in this position. There are still some bits to go, but the floor was big enough anyway. It feels much better.
“I can’t say which parts, but the floor, we’ve got it. I can’t say which part, but there’s still a delta.”
