Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has stated the Milton Keynes-based squad will conduct a review to understand Yuki Tsunoda's lack of pace during qualifying in Barcelona.
Tsunoda is due to start the Spanish Grand Prix from last on the grid after ending the Q1 segment in 20th position.
The Japanese driver was at a loss to explain why his pace was being limited.
Marko stated Tsunoda's car is still not identical to Max Verstappen's following his significant crash at Imola two weeks ago.
“To be fair, he doesn’t have the same underbody [as well as] a few more little things,” Marko told motorsport magazin.
“But he scrapped them and the spare parts situation is not so easy. It seems that when qualifying comes around, he doesn’t improve.
“And while Max manages this climb and everything else, it takes him longer to adapt to it when the car is adjusted.”
Sunday's race will be the third consecutive grand prix that Tsunoda will not take the start from inside the top 10.
Tsunoda has often shown strong pace in comparison to team-mate Verstappen during Friday practice before his form tapers off later in the weekend - a situation Red Bull must review, according to Marko.
“The performance is disappointing,” he said.
“On Friday, he was relatively close to Max and now in qualifying nothing worked at all.
“That’s something we need to analyse.”
