Yuki Tsunoda has explained he felt "shamed" at his huge airborne qualifying accident at Imola, which destroyed his Red Bull.
On his first flying lap, Tsunoda clipped the inside kerb at the Villeneuve chicane and was spat backwards into the barrier, but flipped multiple times before coming to rest in the gravel.
He is likely to be forced into a pit-lane start given the scale of the damage, and must apply to the stewards for formal permission to take part in the race as he registered a DNQ following the crash.
Reflecting after a trip to the medical centre, which resulted in a clean bill of health, Tsunoda expressed his "shame" at the incident.
"It was really stupid of me to be pushing like that, it was unnecessarily hard having made a lot of changes to the car," Tsunoda explained to media, including RacingNews365.
"Pushing like that without understanding enough about the car is just necessary in the early stages.
"The first thing I thought was shame, disappointment and frustration.
"The only thing I can do is apologise to the team, and the car obviously had big damage, so the mechanics have a lot of work to do for tomorrow, and hopefully the car is ready.
'But it is very unnecessary for them and for me to be put in this situation.
"Turns 2 and 3 felt quite good, but obviously we made a lot of changes to the car, and the pace was there yesterday, but in FP3, it was nowhere."
