When can Kimi Antonelli win the 2026 F1 drivers' championship title?

Following the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli holds a 102-point lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell.

No other driver is within 100 points of the Italian, who is increasingly set to become the youngest F1 world champion and shatter Sebastian Vettel's record of 23 years, 4 months, 11 days by over three years.

Antonelli, who turned 20 in August 2026, has dominated the season, and has his first championship point in the United States Grand Prix at Austin.

The article continues below.

THIS ARTICLE WILL BE UPDATED FOLLOWING EVERY GRAND PRIX UNTIL ANTONELLI WINS THE 2026 F1 WORLD DRIVERS' TITLE.

How Kimi Antonelli can win the title today

After the Singapore Grand Prix, there are six races scheduled to take place in the season, each worth 25 points.

This gives a total of 150 points remaining in the championship, with Antonelli holding that 102-point lead after third in Singapore whilst Russell picked up two points for ninth. Antonelli also holds a 111-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.

Antonelli will start on pole position in Austin, with Hamilton fifth and Russell sixth.

For Antonelli to win the title in the United States, the following events must happen.

  • Antonelli wins the United States Grand Prix
  • Russell finishes ninth or lower
  • Hamilton finishes fifth or lower

This is the only combination of results that will see Antonelli crowned in Austin. If Antonelli were to win, Russell was ninth, but Hamilton was fourth, the title race would go on to Mexico City next week.

Should Antonelli win, he will move to 127 points clear of Russell after his ninth grand prix win of the season, with 125 points left on the table.

He would also move 136 points clear of Hamilton.

Russell would be required to score at least four points for an eighth-place finish or better to reduce the gap under 125.

Hamilton would be required to finish at least fourth to bring his deficit back down to 124 points, with a fifth-place finish and an Antonelli win meaning his deficit would be 126 with 125 left.

If Antonelli does win the race and Russell is ninth, the points gap would be 125 points exactly.

But by dint of having nine grand prix wins to Russell's three, Antonelli would win as Russell could not eclipse his tally of wins in the remaining five races.

Should Russell then go onto win in Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, he would draw level on points if Antonelli did not score again - but as points ties are broken firstly by number of wins, Antonelli's 9 to Russell's potential 8 would be game, set, match, and championship for the Italian.

Should Antonelli win the title in the United States, he will be 20 years, 2 months, 0 days old.
