The famous Monza Circuit hosts the 16th round of the 2024 F1 world championship, with McLaren locking out the front row for the race start.

Lando Norris will lead Oscar Piastri off the line as the Woking-based squad continue its hunt of Red Bull in the constructors' fight.

But what race strategies will be in play during the race as the drivers look to climb to the top step of the podium?

Pirelli has signalled a one-stop strategy will be the optimal choice for teams to go to the end of the race.

The long pit straight means the time loss while making a stop will likely push squads to implement a one-stop run to the finish.

Starting on the Medium tyre is the strongest option, with the pit window opening on lap 19 and running to lap 25.

Swapping to a set of Hard tyres and running to the end will be the choice to take, while the reverse strategy - starting on Hards and switching to Mediums - is also an option.

A two-stop strategy using a Medium-Hard-Hard alternative is also on the board but is less likely due to the time loss in the pit lane - however with hot temperatures belting the Monza asphalt, it could be utilised by certain teams.

“On paper, the very long Monza pit lane usually means that a one-stop is almost obligatory here: so a strategy based on using one set of the C4 and one of the C3, stopping between laps 20 and 26 is the quickest,” said Pirelli Head of F1 Mario Isola.

“Although the opposite usage would work for those thinking of running a longer first stint, stopping between laps 26 and 32.

“This year however, a two-stop cannot be ruled out, running one set of Medium and two of Hard.”
