April represents an unusual month for Formula 1 fans this year, as there is no action from the pinnacle of motorsport.

F1 was originally scheduled to race in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on the weekends of April 11–12 and April 18–19. However, due to the current conflict in the Middle East, both Grands Prix were cancelled.

The Miami Grand Prix at the start of May is the next race on the F1 calendar, although there is still plenty of international motorsport to enjoy in April.

Of course, the cancellation of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in particular has allowed Max Verstappen to take part in the two qualifying races ahead of his Nürburgring 24 Hours debut in May.

That event takes place across April 18–19, the same weekend as the opening round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Events in the Middle East have also impacted the WEC calendar, with the series originally set to get underway in Qatar at the end of March. Instead, Imola will host the season opener.

For those wanting GT action before the Nürburgring 24 Hours qualifying races and WEC, the GT World Challenge Europe season gets underway at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 11, the former host of the French Grand Prix.

April 18–19 is a busy weekend, as the fifth round of the IndyCar season will also take place at Long Beach, offering single-seater fans their monthly fix in the absence of F1.

Speaking of busy, Long Beach will be packed, as IndyCar is sharing the venue with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for its third round.

April also features the fourth round of the MotoGP season, which enters the European leg of its campaign at Jerez in Spain across April 25–26.

While not hosting a race this month, April is still significant in the world of Formula E, as it will officially launch its Gen4 car—something likely to grab the attention of F1.
