Lando Norris will take the start of the United States Grand Prix from pole position as he goes in hunt of his fourth victory of the season.

However, he will have Max Verstappen breathing down his neck at the start with the Dutchman looking to follow up his sprint victory on Saturday with a grand prix win.

But what race strategies will be in play during the race as the drivers look to climb to the top step of the podium?

Pirelli has detailed that a two-stop race will be the optimal way to run to the chequered flag - however, there are various ways teams can go about this.

Starting on the medium compound while likely be the most favourable option with a pit window stretching from lap 13 to 22, during which a swap to the hard tyre becomes available.

Following a longer stint on the hard compound, drivers could return to the medium between laps 34 and 41 for the run to the chequered flag.

Pitting earlier in the opening sint and swapping to a second set of mediums before a final stint on the hards is also an option.

Pirelli has also noted a possible strategy of commencing the race on the soft tyres and pitting early - between laps 10 and 16 - and switching to a lengthy stint on the hard compound before fitting the medium for the final laps.

“On a track where the total pit stop time is not very long (20.5s), a two-stop is clearly the quickest strategy,” said Pirelli Head of F1 Mario Isola.

“With nine of the 10 teams having already used one set of Hards in the only free practice session yesterday, it’s clear the most likely option involves the use of two sets of the C3 and the remaining one C2.

“As to how their use will be split between the stints, honestly, we expect that everyone will try and start the race on the Medium.”
