Vettel reveals how Hockenheim trip kickstarted his F1 journey

All of the current F1 drivers have been sharing their first memories of the sport in a recent video posted to F1's YouTube channel. The German explains how one rainy afternoon at Hockenheim in 1992 changed his life forever.

Sebastian Vettel has been recounting the moment that he fell in love with motorsport, in a recently shared video by Formula 1 TV. The German describes going to a free practice session at his home race in the early 1990s, where the speed and sound of the V12 cars would leave a big impression upon young Seb. "I went with my father to Hockenheim, I think it was in 1992," Vettel said in a video posted to the official Formula 1 YouTube channel. "It was free practice, so we got very cheap and late tickets. It was raining very hard, and I just remember that the whole ground was vibrating when the car was coming along. "But just to hear the roar coming out of the forest, to feel it on the ground. And to see the cars braking for the chicane, then taking off again with all the spray behind the car. That was my first memory and it's still an impressive one." The full video, which features all 20 drivers recounting their first F1 memories, can be found below.
