Sebastian Vettel believes that some of the comments made during the debate over Aston Martin's updated AMR22 were "not fair". The team sparked discussion when they unveiled their upgrade package at the Spanish Grand Prix, with certain elements – in particular the sidepods and engine cover – drawing comparisons to Red Bull's RB18. During a routine pre-event check on the updates, the FIA launched an investigation after becoming aware of features that "resembled those of another competitor". This confirmed that no wrongdoing had been committed by Aston Martin. The team have since explained that they created two design concepts for their car while preparing for 2022, with one being the version that they brought to the season-opening races, and the second being the updated model that they are now running. However, the topic still led to a great deal of debate in the aftermath, with Red Bull suggesting that they would carry out an internal investigation into the matter. There were also comments made referencing the staff that had moved from the Milton Keynes-based squad to Aston Martin, with the most high-profile of these being Dan Fallows, who joined as Technical Director in April.
Vettel claims some comments were "not fair"
When asked for his reaction to the controversy, Vettel told media, including RacingNews365.com : "I think it was just at some point not fair. "Especially towards, first of all, all the effort that went in [to bringing the updates to the car]. "Second, on a personal level to Dan Fallows. I don't think it was fair. Some things that were said, I think were not right. "He's a very good guy. I remember him from my time at Red Bull and obviously he's joined the team and is with us now. "So, some of the things that were said were just not right and I would like to hear that… not an apology, just… well, they will never hear anything… but what I mean is, some of the things that have been said were just not fair."
