Vettel and Schumacher to team up for 2022 Race of Champions

Sebastian Vettel will join forces with Mick Schumacher at next year's Race of Champions, having previously won the event on several occasions with Mick's father, Michael Schumacher.

Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher will team up to represent Germany in next year's Race of Champions. The pair have joined a line-up of drivers who will compete in the event in February, which for the first time will be held in Sweden on the frozen Baltic Sea at Pite Havsbad. Vettel is a veteran of ROC, having won the individual Race of Champions at London's Olympic Stadium in 2015, and he has previously been victorious in the ROC Nations Cup on six occasions with Schumacher's father, Michael Schumacher. The younger Schumacher and Vettel teamed up at the 2019 event in Mexico, and finished as runners-up in the Nations Cup to Sweden's Johan Kristoffersson and Tom Kristensen.

Aiming to win

With both Kristoffersson and Kristensen returning in 2022 to defend their title, Vettel is hoping that he and Schumacher can finish ahead of them on this occasion. "I'm really looking forward to being back competing in the Race of Champions again and to represent Germany together with Mick," Vettel said. "At ROC Mexico, we came second in the ROC Nations Cup, so our aim is to do one better in Sweden." As well as working as a team in the ROC Nations Cup, Vettel and Schumacher will compete individually for the Champion of Champions title.

A new challenge

The two F1 drivers might have competed in Race of Champions before, but the 2022 event looks set to pose a whole new challenge. This specially designed circuit marks a move away from the traditional stadium format of ROC and will require competitors to test their skills in the snow and ice. Schumacher is looking forward to experiencing this. "Representing Germany together with Sebastian will for sure be big fun, and obviously we aim to win a trophy again," Schumacher explained. "I so very much look forward to meeting all the other drivers and spending time with them during the Race of Champions weekend. "The snow and ice promises to make this ROC event extremely special, and I am more than sure the drivers will have a crazy good time together in Sweden." Vettel is expecting the competition to be fierce from the Scandinavian drivers taking part. "The competition will be very strong especially from the Nordic drivers who have a lot more experience than us driving on snow and ice," the four-time F1 World Champion said. Schumacher and Vettel will join fellow Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas at the event, as well as Bottas' fellow Finn Mika Hakkinen. Watch a short preview below!
