Max Verstappen has joked Nyck de Vries will send him a “full report” after taking part in a test outing with McLaren late last year.

Verstappen went head-to-head against McLaren's Lando Norris for the F1 title last season and prevailed to take his fourth championship.

McLaren topped the constructors' standings for the first time in 26 years and as it reached the end of the season, it opted to hand de Vries an outing in an older F1 car.

De Vries has 11 F1 starts to his name having stepped into an AlphaTauri drive for the first half of the 2023 season before being dropped.

Speaking exclusively to RacingNews365, Verstappen stated his compatriot has a lot to offer through such test outings.

“It’s a good shout,” Verstappen said. “He is a great driver.

“He is technically also very strong. He likes to really analyse everything within the car.

“It’s good for him. He likes Formula 1 and he's honestly he’s great at these kind of things.”

When asked if it would change any of the friendly exchanges they usually have between one another, Verstappen replied: “He will send me a full report of what is going on!

“No of course not. We always keep it very professional. That's his job.

“I’m not there to try and steal information. I don't want to put him in that position anyway.”

De Vries is currently racing full-time in the Formula E championship with Mahindra Racing.
