Max Verstappen has hit early problems in the Austrian Grand Prix, after causing a red flag during first practice.

The Dutchman came to a stop on the start/finish straight with 27 minutes remaining in the only practice session, with his RB20 having suddenly cut out after making a change on his steering wheel.

Verstappen is already on his final engine and is now at a disadvantage ahead of sprint qualifying, which takes place Friday afternoon at the Red Bull Ring.

He was in third when his car came to a stop, behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in first and second.

As he stopped on the start/finish straight, his car was quickly returned to the Milton Keynes-based team's garage.

The session resumed only a few minutes after the red flag was flown. A quick change was completed by Red Bull and Verstappen returned to the circuit just five minutes after stopping on the circuit.
