Verstappen on struggling Perez: I don’t need somebody to help me

While Max Verstappen took pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix, it was a day to forget for Sergio Perez who could only managed the 11th fastest time. The Mexican's disappointing day didn't seem to phase the Dutchman.

It doesn't look as though Max Verstappen will be getting much help from Sergio Perez in his fight with Lewis Hamilton on Sunday, with the Mexican starting 11th after a disappointing qualifying session. The Dutchman looks dialled into his RB16B after claiming pole ahead of Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The same can't be said for Checo as he failed to make it into Q3, which no doubt complicates Red Bull's plans when it comes to battling Mercedes. However Verstappen was adamant he doesn't need that much help if the car is good enough. "It's not my cup of tea," Verstappen told RacingNews365.com and others. "I generally don't need help. If the car is just good enough I can easily do it myself. "What I've always said is that it's always nice to have a teammate who can help you, but in general you have to assume that you build the fastest car and then you automatically drive away from everybody."
