Frederic Vasseur has placed "trust" in the FIA after the discovery of Red Bull's parc ferme trick, but insists it would be "clearly cheating" if it was used.
In the build-up to the United States Grand Prix, Red Bull admitted to having a device on its RB20 that could be used to adjust the ride height in parc ferme conditions between qualifying and the race. This would constitute a serious breach of the technical regulations.
The part, which Red Bull insists has not been used and cannot be accessed when the car is fully built up was subject to FIA checks following practice in Austin, with seals being placed on the parts after it was inspected by the FIA.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown insists Red Bull has further questions to answer, as Ferrari chief Vasseur placed his faith in the FIA, but insisted it would be a case of "cheating" if Red Bull is found to have used the device.
"We have to trust the FIA on this one," Vasseur told Sky Sports F1.
"I don't want to make any comment on rumours, and I don't know what has happened because I am not in the team, so I don't know if they've used it or not.
"But if they use it, it is clearly cheating, it is not a grey area.
"We've had tons of grey areas from the beginning of the season, but if this is the case, it wouldn't be a grey area at all.
"But we have to trust the FIA."
