Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has criticised Red Bull following the pit lane collision between Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli, with him insisting "somebody panicked".
Antonelli started on sprint pole but immediately lost the lead to Oscar Piastri at the first corner, before tumbling to fourth.
He remained there for considerable time at a wet Miami International Autodrome, before pitting to swap his intermediate tyres for slicks.
However, as he approached the Mercedes pit box, Verstappen was unsafely released by Red Bull, resulting in a collision between the two drivers.
In order to take avoiding action, Antonelli missed the Mercedes garage and had to drive through the entire pit lane.
Verstappen was quickly handed a 10-second time penalty for Red Bull's error, with Wolff being shocked that the Milton Keynes-based outfit allowed it to happen.
"If it was the main race, that would be seriously annoying," Wolff told Sky F1.
"But I'm surprised about the total lack of judgment there, because it wasn't even close of releasing without any security concerns. Somebody panicked [there]."
