The story of F1's tyre test after the Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren stayed in Budapest to conduct tests on Pirelli's bigger 18-inch tyres which will be introduced for the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren had their latest taste of Pirelli's 18-inch tyres which will make their Formula debut in 2022 along with a new set of technical regulations. George Russell drove a Mercedes mule car whilst Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris were behind the wheels of their McLaren machines with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz also getting plenty of mileage under their belt. After two days of running, 523 laps of the Hungaroring were completed by the five drivers which equates to 2291km. Every team has conducted a test on the larger tyres apart from Williams who will run the 18-inch wheels for the first time in pre-season testing in February 2022. Just one more tyre test is expected this year as Alpine run the new wet 2022 compound at Magny-Cours on September 15-16.
