A prediction made by Eddie Jordan back in 2015 regarding Max Verstappen has resurfaced following his death.
Jordan passed away on March 20th following a battle with aggressive prostate and bladder cancer in Cape Town, 10 days before his 77th birthday.
After selling his eponymous team in 2005, he transitioned into a second successful career as a TV broadcaster and pundit, working with the BBC whilst it held broadcast rights in the UK between 2009 and 2015.
Verstappen sparked controversy in 2015 after being handed his F1 debut at just 17 years and 166 days old at the Australian Grand Prix, although he silenced his doubters by scoring points next time out in Malaysia.
A stunning rookie season followed, with Verstappen winning overtake of the year for a brave move around the outside of Felipe Nasr at Spa's fearsome Blanchimont corner. He finished that debut season with 49 points, as Jordan made a firm prediction about Verstappen's future.
"If he continues to go on like this, he will soon be in the position to join people like [Ayrton] Senna and [Michael] Schumacher as absolute greats," he explained on the BBC's 2015 F1 season review.
"Because he is that good, he has impressed me, I cannot tell you, I have not seen somebody emerge at such a young age in Formula 1 as powerful as him."
Verstappen would claim his first world title in 2021. He has entered this season as a four-time F1 champion who has shattered many F1 records.
His 2023 season is the greatest by any driver in the history of the championship, with 19 wins from 22 races, 575 points, and leading 1,003 laps.
The Dutchman also holds the record for most consecutive wins - 10. With his 63 victories, he is currently third on the all-time wins list, behind only Lewis Hamilton on 105 and Michael Schumacher on 91.
