Andretti's new Formula E development driver Callum Voisin has ambitions of becoming a "world champion" and is very much a rising star who, it turns out, is not so new to the American outfit after all.
Voisin was announced last week as Andretti's development driver for the start of the Gen4 era, but in actual fact, he continued working for the team after representing it in the Madrid rookie test in March earlier this year.
It was the Briton's second Formula E rookie test, having represented Cupra Kiro the year prior in Berlin. In both tests, Voisin was hugely impressive, going 10th quickest in the Spanish capital. His performance left Andretti eager to keep him on.
A month after the test, Voisin started supporting Andretti's pre-event set-up on the simulator, around the time the team's results on circuit suddenly improved.
Voisin's pre-event simulator support for Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich coincided with Andretti's strongest run of the season, with the team scoring 113 points across Sanya, Shanghai and Tokyo.
While he has spent most of 2026 with Andretti, the 20-year-old was unsure exactly where he stood with the squad heading into the upcoming season and the Gen4 era, with last week's announcement coming as a pleasant surprise.
Asked how soon he returned to work for Andretti after the Jarama rookie test, Voisin revealed during an interview with RacingNews365: "It was pretty soon after. I'd say, I don't know, a month. Yeah, we got some stuff sorted pretty quickly, and then it was just doing the kind of pre-event set-up.
"So, yeah, that was about it. But, yeah, it all happened fairly quickly, and then I was pretty instantly integrated into the team. But obviously, it was always a bit... I didn't 100% know in what capacity I was in the team.
"I knew that I was doing the pre-event stuff and helping Jake and Felipe out on the DIL, but at the same time, I didn't know if it was a permanent role or if it was kind of just for the rest of the season.
"I didn't really know, so for me, it was a nice surprise to get kind of that [confirmation]."

Callum Voisin expects 'insane' Gen4 to raise physical demands
It has been a strong year for the young star, who, alongside supporting Andretti, raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, where he sealed the 2026 title with Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport with two races to spare, finishing the campaign with nine victories.
Moving from single-seaters to GT racing after leaving Formula 3 has so far worked well for Voisin, who has kept himself firmly in the Formula E shop window. He aims to continue with a GT programme in 2027.
RacingNews365 understands Voisin will take on rookie free practice duties and a rookie test spot for Andretti in Miami next year, giving him further track time as he edges closer to a potential full-time seat.
Moving from the Gen3 Evo to the Gen4 is a huge step up for Voisin, who is hungry and excited for the challenge ahead, resulting in regular messages to team principal Campbell Hobson.
Looking ahead to working on a car as advanced as the Gen4, Voisin said: "I'm so excited. I keep messaging Campbell [Hobson], asking when the simulator is ready to get going. Because, yeah, for me, I mean, the numbers look pretty insane.
"I haven't managed to see much footage, but from what I have seen, it looks amazing, and I think it's a real challenge for everyone. To be honest, I think Formula E has been growing at a rapid rate, more than any other motorsport series, I would say.
"But for me, this is a huge jump, and certainly physically as well. I think the drivers are really going to have to step it up in terms of the training that they do, which for me is always exciting. If a car really demands a lot from the body, I think it's always a bit more rewarding when you get it right, I guess, and it shows the people you work the hardest."
Pressed on whether he harbours genuine ambitions of a full-time Formula E race seat, Voisin left little doubt about where his motorsport future is aimed.
Discussing whether he holds a serious interest in a future Formula E race seat, Voisin explained: "Yeah, absolutely. I think I've said in pretty much every interview that I've done, my goal in motorsport is to become a world champion, and Formula E is one of those championships that ticks that box.
"So for me, it's definitely a future that I see myself in. Obviously, Formula E is a difficult championship to get into. There's no proper, I would say, there's no support series, no proper ladder system in a way. So it's not the easiest for a driver to get in. But, you know, it rewards a driver for being very adaptable."
