Guenther Steiner has said that Andretti bring 'just risk and no benefit' as they bid to become Formula 1's 11th team. The mooted arrival of the Andretti outfit has been met with a mostly unwelcoming response from other F1 teams, though RacingNews365.com understands that McLaren and Alpine support the addition of Andretti. Speaking to Sky Sports F1, the Haas Team Principal confirmed that the team is opposed to having Andretti join the grid because of the lack of "upside." "What upside is it bringing?" said Steiner. "There is just risk, no benefit." Andretti revealed their plans to join the F1 grid alongside US carmaker General Motors under their luxury brand Cadillac in January this year. The proposed entry has put both the FIA and F1 loggerheads, with the governing body welcoming the entry from 2026. However, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has labelled Andretti's attempts to lobby for an entry into the championship as "not smart."
Steiner: Now all of a sudden, everybody wants an F1 team
Steiner continued to say that F1 teams have become financially stable lately, thanks chiefly to the cost cap and prize money distribution. Having an 11th or even a 12th team on the grid would dilute the current teams' share of prize money. Steiner explained: "Five years ago, you could get teams for nothing, you could pick it up. Nobody wanted them and they went out of business. "Now, all of a sudden, everybody wants a team. But it's a lot of people that want to come in and the 10 teams which are here are all financially stable, all well set up. It's a very good environment at the moment, no one is struggling. "If you put an 11th team in and we get a little bit of a dip in the economy or something, all of a sudden maybe people are maybe struggling to survive."
