Ferrari will start first and second on its return to the Le Mans 24 Hours as endurance racing's crown jewel event marks its centenary.
The #50 of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen was some eight-tenths up on the sister #51 car in qualifying to take pole at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Toyota lines up only third and fifth but will be expected to battle for the overall victory by Sunday afternoon given its dominance over the World Endurance Championship in recent years.
IDEC Sport took pole in the LMP2 category, whilst Corvette Racing heads the LMGTE field.
The Hendrick Motorsports Garage 56 entry of Jimmie Johnson and Jenson Button will start behind the LMP2 field after the event organisers changed its rules post-qualifying.
The #24's qualifying effort was good enough to trouble the tail end of the LMP2 cars and therefore has been moved up 21 places from the back of the pack for the race start.
