Sergio Perez is under investigation by the São Paulo Grand Prix stewards after being spotted "throwing something" out of the cockpit of his Cadillac.
Late in the hour-long session at Interlagos, the stewards cited Perez for 'unsafe condition' given the unusual circumstances of the incident.
Over the radio as the clock ticked down, and with the Mexican driver finishing 20th of the 22 drivers on the timesheet, 1.951s adrift of pacesetter Max Verstappen in his Red Bull, Perez was asked by his race engineer, Carlo Pasetti: "We saw you throwing something out of your car on the outlap. What was it?"
Perez replied: "I don't know. It was, errr, something came off. I think the radio, where you put the radio cables. A little box."
Pasetti replied: "Copy that. We will investigate."
As will the stewards, who will speak to Perez prior to qualifying.
