Saudi Arabian GP: New details revealed about Qiddiya F1 track

The new venue is expected to take over the running of the Saudi Arabian GP from 2027.

The Qiqqiya Investment Company [QIC] has revealed further details about the city's F1 track which is due to take over the hosting of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix later this decade.

The event is currently held at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which plays host to the second round of the new F1 campaign this weekend, with the high-speed street layout expected to do so until 2027.

In its place will be the new Speed Park in Qiddiya, a purpose-built project as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative and further details have now been released about the characteristics of the circuit.

The 'Blade' headlines new track

An elevation difference of 108 metres across the 21-corner lap, which is due to include three DRS zones, is punctuated with a 70m incline to the first corner known as the 'Blade', which will be illuminated with LED lights.

The track, designed by Hermann Tilke and former F1 driver Alex Wurz, is targeted to merge the characteristics of both permanent and street circuits to include several configurations.

QIC managing director Abdullah Aldawood said: "The Speed Park Track will be a true embodiment of Qiddiya's power of play philosophy and position Qiddiya City as the home of Saudi motorsport and one of the world's leading motorsport venues.

"Visitors and spectators will be treated to one of the most unique race experiences in the world with a pioneering track that will be ready to host some of the world's biggest motorsport events."

Qiddiya City is one of many megaprojects under construction in Saudi Arabia and is located just outside the Kingdom's capital city Riyadh.
