Carlos Sainz caused the second red flag of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix qualifying session.
The Ferrari driver lost control of his car through the second corner of the circuit during Q2 and slid into the barrier, sustaining damage to his rear.
The Italian squad is now in a race against time to get the car fixed before the start of the grand prix, which gets underway in just over four hours' time.
Sainz entered the weekend after enjoying a strong showing last time out in Mexico.
The Spaniard claimed pole position and the race win in Mexico City one week ago - however his confidence will have no doubt taken a knock with the costly shunt.
Sainz was the second driver to crash during qualifying after Williams' Franco Colapinto hit the wall during Q1.
