Renault Group has agreed to sell Alpine Racing SAS, the Formula 1 engine operation based at the historic Viry-Châtillon site near Paris, to Belgian powertrain specialist Dumarey Group.
According to Reuters, the deal preserves 150 jobs at the facility, which has been at the centre of the French manufacturer's works engine programme for decades.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
The sale comes two years after Renault decided, in 2024, to pull out of building its own F1 power units, instead switching the Alpine team to customer Mercedes engines from 2026 onwards.
Once the deal is completed, Alpine Racing SAS will operate fully under the Dumarey brand, with the Belgian group taking over both ownership and management of the site.
Renault and Dumarey said the move could open the door to the Viry-Châtillon operation supplying its Formula 1 engine expertise to other racing teams in the future.
Dumarey chairman and founder Guido Dumarey said the takeover was about safeguarding the site's technical knowledge rather than winding it down.
"Our ambition is to preserve and further develop this exceptional engineering expertise while creating new opportunities for growth," Dumarey said in a statement.
