Carlos Sainz has insisted Ferrari has "bigger priorities" to address before focusing on his own F1 future. The Spaniard remains contracted with the Scuderia through to the end of next season and has previously indicated he doesn't want to race into the final year of his deal without his future being resolved. Sainz was left stranded when ousted by Renault in favour of Daniel Ricciardo for the 2019 season before landing at McLaren and in order to avoid the potential of a repeat, he suggested earlier this year that he would look to sit down with Ferrari over the next winter break. Team Principal Frederic Vassuer was quoted recently that the team must keep its focus on the short-term issues it faces rather than the future of it's drivers, with Sainz's teammate Charles Leclerc also out of contract at the end of next season.
More important things
"I personally agree with Fred," Sainz told media, including RacingNews365 . "In Ferrari, there are much bigger priorities than sorting out the future of its drivers. "With so many races consecutively, it is not like you can stop for a minute and really think about what your future and what you want to do and what you see happening for you in the next two or three years - with so many back-to-back races, it is difficult. "I am not going to lie, during the three-week break in August I will start thinking a bit about what I would be happy with, and then the winter break - which is what I said in that interview a while ago - will be the time to start figuring out where I will be racing in 2025. "But going back to Fred, I fully agree because there are much bigger priorities, much more important things we need to sort out in the short term and that is my priority too, to be competitive with Ferrari not only this year but also next year - I still have a contract in place - and get next year's car right and getting better than where we are now."
