Jake Dennis has revealed that finishing on the podium in the second race of Formula E's Tokyo E-Prix was the moment he truly began to believe the drivers' title was within reach.
The Season 9 world champion has been in mesmeric form since Formula E headed to Sanya in June, claiming a win, three further podiums and two pole positions in the last five races.
His incredible run has seen him climb to the top of the drivers' standings with just two races in London remaining next weekend, despite having been 32 points adrift just two rounds earlier, heading into Japan.
No driver on the grid currently looks as strong as the Andretti star, who, after a difficult mid-season spell, now truly believes a second title is there for the taking.
Asked after the second race in Tokyo when he first believed a title charge was realistic, Dennis told RacingNews365: "Probably now, to be honest. I think, yeah, realistically, we came into Tokyo still thinking it was a bit of a stretch, 32 points behind the leader, and now we're leading it.
"So I think now we can really, you know, try and actually win this thing, and we'll focus on that."
Looking ahead to the final two races in London, the ExCeL Centre has historically been a happy hunting ground for the Briton, particularly in Seasons 7, 8 and 9. Across those three campaigns, Dennis claimed two wins and a further three podiums.
However, over the past two years, he has finished no higher than fourth. Crucially, he is not focusing on what his rivals do, but rather on what he and Andretti can control.
Asked what needs to change for the remainder of the season, Dennis replied: "Honestly, nothing. Like, we just need to keep doing what we're doing. The car I've had the past four weekends has been phenomenal.
"We've had so many pole positions, podiums and, yeah, we've had a good car. So we don't need to do anything special. We keep doing what we're doing. We do the simulator days. We do the data analysis, and what will be will be in London.
"If we're quick, then we're quick. If we're slow, we're slow. But all we can do is just focus on ourselves and do the job."
