Carlos Sainz became the second shock elimination of Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying by missing out on Q3. The Spaniard will start 11th on the grid at the Hungaroring having fallen just 0.002secs shy of Fernando Alonso's time that saw the Aston Martin through to the final stage. Ironically, it was Sainz's Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc who delivered the damning blow to send the former out in Q2. The surprise result followed George Russell's inability to reach Q2 for Mercedes, meaning neither of the two drivers that filled the front row a year ago will be in the top 10 on the grid. F1 and Pirelli have introduced an 'Alternative Tyre Allocation' trial this weekend, with drivers forced to use Hard tyres in Q1, Mediums in Q2 and Softs in Q3. Sainz was joined in elimination by Alpine duo Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly - who will start 12th and 15th - Daniel Ricciardo for AlphaTauri and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll.
