Russell reveals biggest lesson from Hamilton partnership

George Russell has revealed the biggest lesson he has learned from Lewis Hamilton during their three years together at Mercedes.

Hamilton drove his last race for the Brackley-based squad last weekend in Abu Dhabi, bringing the curtain down on a successful 12-year partnership.

The seven-time F1 champion is joining Ferrari next year to kickstart a new career chapter, pairing up with Charles Leclerc.

With over 100 grand prix wins, Hamilton stands as F1's most successful driver and as a result, has vast knowledge to pass on to his team-mates.

However, Russell detailed the biggest lesson from Hamilton is not directly related to on-track performance.

"I think just actually seeing firsthand what a role model he is,” Russell told RacingNews365.

"I recognised from Lewis that we've all got this platform and we have to use it correctly. 

“That's become even more apparent to me when my young niece and nephews are watching TikTok and YouTube and Netflix. I’ve spent a bit of time with Toto [Wolff]'s son and all of his friends see Netflix and stuff.

"How you deal with the victories, how you deal with the losses – you inspire the young kids.

“When I look back to that photo I had of Lewis when I was a kid, I looked up at him the same way as all these kids look up to us.

“So, I think that's probably been the biggest life lesson that I've learned from him.

"Sometimes, even if you want to really express something that's got hundreds of millions of people watching, the way you do it is super important.”
