George Russell has asserted Max Verstappen does not hold an “unbeatable” status in F1.
Verstappen secured his fourth title last time out in Las Vegas, joining an exclusive list of the most successful drivers.
The Dutchman has undoubtedly been F1's best performer across the last handful of years with his run of consecutive championships.
However Russell, who won the Las Vegas Grand Prix last time out, has refuted the suggestion that no driver can match Verstappen over the course of a season.
When asked by media including RacingNews365 if he feels he could take the fight to the Red Bull driver, Russell replied: “Yeah, definitely.
“Nobody's unbeatable. And you go through these phases where teams and drivers together are dominating and people think if I went up alongside them, I wouldn't be able to compete with them.
“And you’ve got to have belief in yourself. I think, you know, the three of us here all believe in ourselves.”
During Verstappen's maiden title-winning campaign, he went up against Lewis Hamilton in a fierce season-long battle.
Russell pointed to his own track record against Hamilton since joining Mercedes in an effort to showcase his own ability of besting Verstappen.
“For me personally, you know, when I teamed up with Lewis, Lewis is the greatest of all time,” he said.
“Max is right up there with Lewis. I absolutely believe in myself that we could fight him in equal machinery.”
