Rosberg: Verstappen now knows how good Hamilton is

The 2016 Formula 1 world champion feels Max Verstappen will have learned a lot from the Portuguese GP as Lewis Hamilton beat the Dutch driver following an on-track overtake.

Nico Rosberg believes Max Verstappen will now understand the difficulty of beating Lewis Hamilton following their battle in Portimao. Verstappen overtook Hamilton on the safety car restart before the seven-time world champion hit back and capitalised on a mistake from Verstappen to pass him and go on to take the win. "What a phenomenal race by Lewis," Rosberg told Sky Sports. I'm a bit amused because Verstappen is now starting to understand better and better how good Hamilton is. "He [Verstappen] needs to do everything perfect to beat him in the championship and at the moment it's 2-1 to Hamilton." Rosberg reckons Red Bull missed an opportunity to make it back to back victories following Verstappen's messy qualifying on Saturday. "I think they would have wanted to win here because they had the fastest car," said Rosberg. "If we think about qualifying yesterday, Verstappen had the fastest lap, it just got deleted because of a mistake. "He got fastest lap in the race again, but it got deleted again because of track limits. That's too many mistakes."
