Ricciardo in an awkward position at McLaren

Daniel Ricciardo finds himself in a strange situation at McLaren. While the Australian is about to enter his 10th season in F1, his younger teammate Lando Norris is McLaren's more experienced driver.

Despite the fact that Daniel Ricciardo is an established campaigner having claimed seven wins in his Formula 1 career so far, the Australian finds himself in an unusual situation where despite having more experience in F1 as a whole, it is his teammate Lando Norris who has more experience at McLaren, making him the team's leader going into the season. After struggling through a large part of the previous decade, the McLaren team have improved significantly over the past two seasons with the team from Woking finishing third in last year's constructor's championship. With the arrival of Daniel Ricciardo, the team have a very interesting driver lineup with the affable Australian partnering the equally likeable Englishman. "It's funny. I'm certainly the more experienced in terms of F1, this being my 11th season, but in terms of McLaren, Lando is the more experienced," Riccardo told GP Fans. "For sure, there are some things I can learn from him, particularly within the team itself, the integration into the McLaren family. "Every time you have a new team-mate, it's a real opportunity to learn something new, like work ethic or a driving technique, or both." Riccardo also stated that he will not hesitate to seek advice from his much younger teammate, saying he will approach the season with an open mind. "I'm always pretty open-minded," Ricciardo said. "I know every driver has confidence in themselves and their ability, and I am very confident as an individual but I am also open-minded. "If there's something I can take from Lando and use it to better myself then obviously I am looking to learn as much as I can." It will certainly be interesting to see how McLaren performs this coming season. Norris has been tipped by certain quarters as potential future world champion, though his credentials will be put to the test as he goes up against one of F1's toughest customers, Ricciardo.
