Ricciardo going 'lone wolf' on F1 return

Ricciardo is set to start his second spell with the Faenza-based team.

Daniel Ricciardo has joked he is going "lone wolf" on his Formula 1 return with AlphaTauri at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The eight-time F1 winner was announced as replacing Nyck de Vries for the final 12 races of the 2023 season last week, returning to the same team which he drove for in its Toro Rosso guise in 2012-13. However, a key member of Ricciardo's inner team, his previous physio and trainer Michael Italiano is now working with new teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

Ricciardo's 'lone wolf'

"So I'm [going in] lone wolf," Ricciardo joked to media including RacingNews365 when asked about his physio arrangements in Budapest. "I've got Pyry [Salmela] helping me out - he's going to be helping me out on race weekends just to kind of make the flow of a weekend go a little smoother. "But like a lot of things in this time off, I always said that if I come back to the sport, I want to do things a little differently. "This year, I've been able to find that self-motivation and I wanted to come from me - like all the training, the mindset that I wanted to get back into the sport because it's all truly coming from me and what my heart desires. "I've been doing it myself this year - and I've got the answers I've wanted."
