Red Bull rival fires ominous 'true strength' warning

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack believes that the upcoming run of high-speed circuits will enable Red Bull to show its true pace.

The Canadian Grand Prix was one of the first races in 2023 when Max Verstappen crossed the line just under ten seconds ahead of a rival in a different team. On every other occasion the RB19 has been able to showcase superior pace and win by a healthy margin of over 20 seconds. Max Verstappen was cautious when asked whether he felt Aston Martin had managed to close the gap, or if there was some mitigating circumstances which enabled the closer finish. "I don't think it was our best day, because of the tyre temps and stuff. So that doesn't help. But I also know that with their updates, they naturally of course improved. So, for sure, they got closer to us," he told media, including RacingNews365.com .

Aston Martin not concerned about high speed tracks

While Aston Martin has showcased the majority of its pace around street circuits, they have yet to impress on the high speed tracks. A difficult race in Barcelona showed they still had work to do if they wanted to regularly compete at the top with Mercedes, who have now overtaken them in the Constructors' Championship. Team Principal, Mike Krack, is unconcerned about the next run of high speed circuits at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, given that their upgrade package worked as intended. "I'm not concerned because I think we have seen the latest upgrade seems to work and there are some tracks coming up now where you have a lot of high speed corners," he explained. "I think we improved our car in high speed corners, although there are not so many here [Montreal] it's a lot of braking." Krack believes these circuits will show the "true strength" of Red Bull, whose win margins could increase as they unleash the full potential of their car. He added: "We're actually looking forward to them because in such circuits I think we also see the true strength of Red Bull and also we have a better indication of how far we are away."
