Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has revealed that the decision is likely to be made for Max Verstappen to be fitted with more downforce ahead of Belgian Grand Prix qualifying.
The Dutchman secured Sprint victory at Spa-Francorchamps in sunny conditions, courtesy of a low downforce setup having turned his RB21 into a missile along the straights.
However, heavy rain is forecast for Sunday's grand prix, with Red Bull wary of a costly mistake which was made in the British Grand Prix.
In Silverstone, Verstappen claimed pole in the dry using a low downforce setup, but suffered major difficulties in the race due to significant rain.
As a result, Marko has outlined that changes will likely be made to Verstappen's car in preparation for the forecast rain.
It could hurt the 27-year-old in qualifying due to dry conditions, but improve his hopes of a victory in the race.
"We are going to have a closer look at the weather forecast," Marko told Sky DE. "At the moment there is an 80 percent chance of rain [during the race].
"We know from Silverstone that you can't gain anything with a little wing. So I think we will change the setup to have more downforce, even though we might not be at the very front of the grid. In the rain, however, that will help."
With a setup change expected to take place to the four-time world champion's car, Marko suspects the front row could be a tall order in qualifying.
Addressing where Verstappen might qualify, Marko predicted: "That depends on what the others choose in terms of setup. It could be the second or third row."
