In the latest crazy Red Bull stunt, BMX rider Kriss Kyle has become the first person to jump over a moving F1 car, a moment he deemed as "one of the scariest things".
With the help of Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), Kyle jumped over the RB7, the car Sebastian Vettel drove to the 2011 drivers' title.
It was driven by former F1 driver David Coulthard, with a custom-built kicker having been created by RBAT for Kyle to complete the remarkable jump.
Kriss spent seven months preparing for the stunt, one he cannot believe he has finally accomplished.
"It was one of the scariest things that I have ever done!" said Kyle. "Hearing and seeing the car come hurtling towards me was crazy but I just had to clear my mind and concentrate on what I needed to do to make it over. It has been a dream come true to achieve this feat."
Crucially, the custom-build kicker needed to be solid enough for Kriss to lift his BMX from to jump over the moving car, but also light enough to be hit out of the way by Coulthard without sustaining damage.
"We like doing crazy things and driving a BMX bike at an F1 car was a challenge we thought we were up to," said Greg Borrill, Heritage chief mechanic.
"We put the wheels in motion with Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Kriss and needed to make sure that safety was paramount.
"A lot of design work by Red Bull Advanced Technologies went into creating a bespoke kicker that Kriss could use to jump over the car and would enable the car to get out of the way safely. Overall, the stunt was nailed and it was amazing to see."
