Red Bull backed for F1 revival after Max Verstappen redemption

Max Verstappen clinched Red Bull's first podium of the 2026 F1 season in Montreal — can the team now take an elusive first victory as power unit manufacturer?

Max Verstappen secured his first podium of the F1 season at the Canadian Grand Prix, ending a torrid run of form for Red Bull and the four-time drivers' champion.

The Milton Keynes-based team and its star driver have endured an underwhelming start to the campaign, with the Dutchman unable to finish in the top five until the Miami Grand Prix at the start of May.

At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the 28-year-old went two better, reaching the rostrum despite losing out to Lewis Hamilton in an entertaining battle for second position.

With Red Bull taking its first steps as a power unit manufacturer — in partnership with American car giant Ford — expectations for the season were low, but that side of things has been a rare bright spot for the six-time constructors' champions.

The RB22 has proven to be a troublesome chassis, and both Verstappen and new team-mate Isack Hadjar often found themselves fighting in the lower reaches of the points across the opening rounds of the year.

With the steps forward taken in Florida, which the Red Bull and the 71-time grand prix winner made good on in Montreal, the next hurdle will be achieving a first victory under its own power.

And, in a recent poll conducted by RacingNews365, almost 70 per cent of respondents voiced their belief that the team will reach that milestone before the season is through.

But if the Red Bull can get over the line in first, and when that might happen, remains to be seen.
