Ralf Schumacher adamant Vettel must deliver in Imola

Sebastian Vettel's less than stellar start to the season continues to make headlines, though the German has a chance to change that narrative this weekend at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Ralf Schumacher expects an improved performance from the four-time world champion.

Although we're just one race into the 2021 F1 season Ralf Schumacher thinks the pressure is already mounting for Sebastian Vettel, who he believes has to deliver at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The German has had a less than stellar start to his career with new team Aston Martin, as his time in the car during pre-season testing was slashed due to reliability issues. Things didn't improve at the Bahrain Grand Prix with Vettel being handed two penalties, one of which came as a result of slamming into the back of Esteban Ocon's Alpine. As a result the pressure is already on Vettel, with Schumacher telling Sky Deutschland that improvement is needed as soon as this weekend at Imola. "I think Sebastian apologised afterwards and that's good sign," Schumacher stated regarding the crash with Ocon. "He had a miscalculation. "It's happened to Sebastian a couple of times now where he was a bit off when it comes to the gap [to the car in front of him]. I hope that he works things out for himself because when something like this comes after such a disastrous weekend it doesn't really help him, especially when it comes to settling in with the team. "It will now be more difficult for him in Imola. He has to be in front, he has to be faster than his teammate but he can't make any mistakes either. It won't be easy for Sebastian." Along with Vettel, Schumacher is also looking for Aston Martin to improve as well as the former F1 driver wasn't impressed with the team's performance in Bahrain. "Vettel's Aston Martin was anything but good at the first race weekend," Schumacher concluded.
