Racing Bulls has decided to hand Liam Lawson new power unit components for the Mexico City Grand Prix.
The decision comes following Lawson's disqualification from qualifying at the Autodrómo Hermanos Rodríguez for a technical irregularity.
Lawson had qualified a superb eighth for the high-altitude race, although was due to start ninth after being handed a one-place grid penalty following his on-track altercation with Red Bull's four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen in second practice on Friday.
Almost immediately after qualifying, the New Zealander's VCARB 03 was found to have been "in breach of the minimum MGU-K power requirement just after crossing the line on his fastest lap in Q2 at 15:47:36", according to the stewards.
Although Racing Bulls tried to argue Lawson's case, there is rarely, if ever, a defence for a technical breach, leading to the 24-year-old's disqualification.
After later being permitted to start the race, Racing Bulls has opted to fit a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, exhaust set and ancillary component, all of which exceed the permitted number allowed for the season. The team has also opted to make changes to the suspension set-up.
It means Lawson will now start the race from the pit lane.
