Problems plague Perez prior to Bahrain Grand Prix race start

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has had to undergo a change to certain electrical elements on his Honda power-unit.

Mexican driver Sergio Perez who will start 11th in today's Bahrain Grand Prix for Red Bull has had an issue firing up his engine. Perez required a change of Control Electronics and Energy Store, with each driver permitted two of each over the course of the season. The new Red Bull recruit will be able to make race start without suffering any penalties on this occasion, although the change could result in penalties later in the season. Similar issues plagued Pierre Gasly's AlphaTauri yesterday, though the Frenchman put in a stellar performance qualifying fifth after he had the same parts changed on his AT02. Whether this is a recurring issue specific to the Honda engine is yet to be known. A Tweet of Perez's car an hour before the start of the Grand Prix can be viewed below.
