Perez: Verstappen has improved more than me this weekend

Sergio Perez hasn't had a great weekend so far in Monaco. After some struggles with traffic during qualifying, the Mexican had to settle for ninth on the grid.

While Max Verstappen seems to have made improvements with his Red Bull since Thursday, Sergio Perez knows he's been unable to match his teammate so far in Monaco. Qualifying hasn't been the Mexican's strength so far in 2021 and that continued on Saturday, with Checo forced to settle for ninth on the grid. Given how important grid position is in Monaco, Perez knows he hasn't made enough progress. "I think Max made more progress through the weekend than myself with his car and setup" Perez told RacingNews365.com and other members of the media. "He managed to get a better read into the car than I did. "We started really well, unfortunately we didn't make enough progress into qualifying. Practice one was good and things looked better, but when it mattered, especially in Q3, I was half a second or slow slower than my Q2 lap so we missed out and we know how important qualifying is here." Lewis Hamilton qualified down in seventh and admitted he isn't hopeful regarding his prospects for Sunday , a sentiment the Mexican shared. "It's Monaco, we know that it is impossible to make up ground around this place," Perez added. "Hopefully we are able to do it strategy wise. We will see what we are able to do."
