Perez: Relaxed Red Bull approach is unique within sport

The Mexican driver is already impressed by what he's seen at his new team, but the way that Red Bull operates did surprise him initially. Perez has been commenting on the Austrian outfit's famous laid-back approach.

Sergio Perez has provided an insight into how the unique work environment at Red Bull has led to so much success in F1 since the team's creation. The 31-year-old, who joined the team for the 2021 season, finished 5th in his first Red Bull outing at the Bahrain Grand Prix. However, with such an impressive organisation behind him, Perez is keen to make the very most of his opportunity heading into the rest of the campaign. "As soon as you arrive at Red Bull, you know why they have been so successful, from Christian (Horner), Adrian (Newey) and Dr Marko, the whole team and how it's structured," Perez stated in an interview posted to the Red Bull Content Pool. "It's very powerful and they can really do great things, so it's a massive opportunity for me. However, it's also funny and the other aspect of the Red Bull culture is how relaxed people are while working so hard. It is really something when you come from the outside and experience it. "They don't have to be extremely strict to focus, they can be relaxed, but also delivering to the maximum levels. It's something that Red Bull does very uniquely in the sport." The Mexican driver's next opportunity to impress will be at this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where both he and teammate Max Verstappen are widely tipped to take a race victory. Having said that, Imola isn't especially treasured by Perez, which counters the widely held belief that all drivers love the Italian circuit. "It is not my favourite track, but it's still one I enjoy," the Red Bull driver continued. "Unfortunately, the race isn't so interesting for the fans if it's a normal one. Without a safety car it can end up being a one-stop race and boring for the fans. Hopefully we're there in the mix from day one onwards and can take another step in the right direction."
