Sergio Perez has stated he has “six months” to make a decision over his future as he continues to be linked with a return to the F1 grid.
The Mexican driver's F1 career seemingly came to an end last year following his exit from the Red Bull team.
Perez spent four seasons at the Milton Keynes-based squad alongside Max Verstappen, winning five races and bagging 29 podiums in that period.
However, the 35-year-old struggled to get on top of the car in his final season, which became increasingly difficult to handle as the campaign progressed.
Perez did not commit to any racing activities this year but stated he could opt to make a return to the cockpit in 2026.
“I have six months,” Perez told Prodynamics. “I gave myself six months to see what options I have and decide what the next step in my career is.
“The doors are open in many places. Today I have the opportunity to decide what I want with my career.
“What comes next is important, so I want to give myself the time and space to make the best decision.”
In recent weeks, Perez has been increasingly linked with a return to F1 with Cadillac.
The American team will establish itself as an 11th squad on next year's grid and has consistently outlined it is seeking a driver with experience to fill at least one of the seats.
With 281 race starts to his name, Perez is among the most experienced drivers in F1 history.
Perez's popularity in Mexico and South America could also make him a valuable commercial asset for the Cadillac squad.
