For the second season in succession, Sergio Perez failed to progress to Q2 at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver failed to improve on his final hot lap at the Circuit de Monaco and will start Sunday's race from 18th on the grid.

As soon as the Mexican was informed of his elimination, Perez's annoyance was clear: "What a *** joke."

Just ahead of him in 16th is two-time Monaco winner Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard was another driver who failed to make a significant improvement on his final hot lap.

However, the Aston Martin driver encountered heavy traffic on his final push lap in Q1, leaving him somewhat helpless.

With overtaking virtually impossible at Monaco, Perez and Alonso both have very little chance of scoring a point.

At the top in the first part of qualifying was George Russell, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.

Logan Sargeant and both Stake F1 drivers were also eliminated in Q1.
