Sergio Perez has vowed to "maximise" the remainder of the F1 season after receiving Red Bull's backing despite his poor form.

In the eight races since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Perez has scored just 24 points, with his poor form bringing Red Bull's hopes of retaining the constructors' championship into doubt, with McLaren just 42 points behind going into the summer break.

Perez held talks with Red Bull bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, with it being confirmed in the days after the Belgian Grand Prix that he would be retained for the rest of the season.

It is hoped that Perez can find some form in the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, both races he has won before, with the Mexican bagging five podiums in Baku, and is the only driver to ever win the race twice.

Knowing his future is at stake, Perez is firm that he can deliver what is needed.

"I am looking forward to getting back in the car this weekend," Perez explained.

"The summer break was very important for everyone in the team and the whole sport, with so many races now everyone needs the rest and reset time more than ever.

"I know what we can extract from the car in the coming weeks and we will do our best to maximise the second half of 2024.

"I spent my time in Mexico with family and I feel refreshed and ready to go for the second half of the season.

"I know all my team feel the same, I have been in Milton Keynes this week with them."

Perez's engineer swap

Perez will also be required to get used to a new race engineer for the forthcoming races, with usual engineer Hugh Bird taking paternity leave.

"Everyone will notice a change on the radio on our side of the garage in Zandvoort," Perez explained.

"Hugh my race engineer is expecting a baby very soon so will be spending some time at home and I wish him and his family the best of luck with their new arrival!

"[Richard Wood] my performance engineer will step up in the meantime."
