Pascal Wehrlein bounced back from a disappointing opening race at Formula E's Berlin E-Prix to claim pole position for the second race.

It extended Porsche's strong home event, after Nico Müller secured a maiden victory in the championship on Saturday.

The Season 10 world champion defeated DS Penske's Taylor Barnard in the final duel, securing three points for the championship.

Nick Cassidy and Joel Eriksson locked out the second row in third and fourth at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport Circuit.

Duels

In the final, Wehrlein was the favourite, having looked strong throughout qualifying. The predictions proved accurate, as the German went quicker than Barnard.

However, the Porsche driver had to work for it after being one-tenth slower than Barnard in the first sector, before strong second and third sectors to clinch pole by 0.038s.

To make it into the final, Wehrlein defeated former team-mate da Costa in the quarter-final, before going on to eliminate Eriksson.

As for Barnard, he got the better of Felipe Drugovich first in the duels and then Cassidy. In the other two quarter finals, Cassidy defeated Jean-Eric Vergne and Eriksson got past Maloney.

Group stage

With temperatures soaring and an intense peloton race expected, several drivers opted to save tyres in qualifying.

It resulted in some surprise names progressing to the duels, with Saturday's polesitter Edoardo Mortara and race winner Nico Müller being eliminated in the first group.

Cassidy went quickest in the opening group on a 58.440 and was joined in the top four, progressing into the duels, by Barnard, Drugovich and Citroën team-mate Vergne.

The surprises continued in the second group, with Eriksson and Lola's Maloney making it into the duels in second and third.

There were no surprises at the top and bottom of the top four, though, as da Costa and Wehrlein took those slots, the former going fastest on a 58.439.
