Oliver Bearman brought out the fourth red flag of a chaotic qualifying session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
There were three in Q1 for incidents involving Williams' Alex Albon, Nico Hulkenberg in his Sauber, and Alpine's Franco Colapinto, the latter suffering a heavy crash in the dying moments.
Q2 had barely started, with none of the remaining 15 drivers yet to set a time, when Bearman clipped a wall with the right rear of his Haas.
The impact was enough to immediately break the suspension in that area of the car.
Despite Bearman's attempts to continue, it was immediately clear he would be unable to return to the garage.
The British driver was forced to stop on the straight between Turns 2 and 3, forcing race director Rui Marques to throw another red flag.
